One of my favorite albums to come out this year is The Valley by Whitechapel. The record mainly revolves around the singer's childhood with a schizophrenic, drug-addicted mother. Its entire sound is entrenched in that moody, bitter, vengeful, sometimes-mournful atmosphere, and I thought it made for such a strong album. I can't personally say I had hardships anywhere near that effect growing up, I found the idea of "evil maternity" that the album seems wrapped up in fascinating. Between the album's artwork (https://www.metalblade.com/us/covers/Whitechapel-TheValley.jpg) and listening to the album over and over, I created my own surreal interpretation of its themes, applying touches of personal experiences through the piece.
